The Restaurant
Mill End boasts an award-winning restaurant featuring the finest local produce including free range eggs, vegetables, local beef and the finest, freshest fish caught off the Devon and Cornish coasts.
A young and innovative culinary team is now headed by Jay Allan. Jay was born and raised in Exeter and first came to Mill End when he was a leading student at Exeter College. As part of his training Jay left Mill End for positions in some of the countries best restaurants including the Castle in Taunton, Chewton Glen Hotel and the Seafood Restaurant in Padstow. After stints as head chef at the Blue Ball and lecturing at his old college; Jay has returned to Mill End as our head chef.
Jay has built a great young and enthusiastic team at Mill End; all of whom share his commitment to using the best the local area can offer. Devon is the larder of England with amazing and varied local cheeses, wonderful beef and lamb and great game.
The ability to create locally sourced menus has been a driving force for many of new breed of chefs and Jay at 28 is no exception.Assigning a style to a chef or a restaurant is always difficult but classical English cooking with a modern twist is a description reflected in Jay’s commitment to the produce and traditions of the area, the quality of homemade breads, chutneys and the seasonally changing menus. You will find dishes such as Golden Beetroot and Quick’s Goats Chesse Tartlet, Soups with a modern twist such as Smoked Pumpkin and Parmesan and the luxury of desserts such as Assiette of Devon Orchard.
We only cook what is best on the day and in season with weekly changing menus.

These weekend events begin with afternoon tea in front of the glowing fire. A welcoming glass of champagne with fellow guests breaks the ice, before diners feast upon a six-course dinner accompanied by carefully chosen wines to complement each course.
